At some point of our lives, we’ve all had to deal with a sociopath or narcissist. It’s not a pleasant experience – these people are great manipulators who will stop at nothing to get whatever they want from you. Sociopaths aren’t strangers – in most cases, they can be your friend, a close family member or even your partner.
These people are toxic and dangerous, but they’re hard to detect right away. They are extremely selfish and care for no one but themselves. They never take the emotions of others into account and will be your friend only until they get what they want. They’re deceitful and very dangerous, so it’s best to stay away from them.
But, do you know how to recognize them? Sociopaths can hide their true agenda and goals in plain sight and you won’t be able to see them until it’s too late. They use certain phrases, however, that can help you identify them as early as possible so you can get out of that toxic relationship.
Here are the phrases sociopaths and narcissists use that can make you go insane:
“You Will Never Understand Me”
Sociopaths use a technique called gaslighting which allows them to blame others and defend themselves by saying no one can understand them. They deflect blame in this way and will do everything they can to project it on others.
“Don’t Be So Sensitive”
Sociopaths will always blame you for being too sensitive and tell you that you need to toughen up. They use this phrase to deflect the guilt from them and keep you in their grasp.
This is probably the most common phrase sociopaths use to make a person feel insecure and establish their domination. They might blame you for being crazy, bipolar or simply jealous – as soon as you hear the phrase, you should know that you’re dealing with a sociopath.
“You’re Overthinking Stuff”
Yes, overthinking can be hard and we all do it from time to time. However, it’s completely justified in some cases. Sociopaths, however, will use this phrase to keep you on the edge and make you paranoid so they can continue reigning over you. They will stop at nothing to make you feel crazy, which is exactly what they need to get whatever they want from you.
“Don’t Be So Dramatic”
If you are dramatic in some cases, there’s probably a reason for it. Sociopaths and narcissists, however, will never admit it. They will accuse you of being overly dramatic and demand that you stop. They can get under your skin in this way and make you question yourself when you really shouldn’t.
“You Can’t Live Without Me”
Sociopaths will use everything at their disposal to keep you hooked to them. If you leave them, they’ll say you won’t survive without them when it’s clear that you can. Don’t let this phrase disarm you – if you’ve planned on walking through that door and ending that harmful relationship, you shouldn’t look back.
