More and more people are suffering from mental exhaustion or burnout. It’s not a myth – as a matter of fact, mental exhaustion may be the reason behind your fatigue and a variety of other problems as well. It can cloud your mind and leave you without sleep, which will create more than a few problems.

The author says that it’s not something that happens overnight – it slowly creeps and builds up before taking control of our wellbeing. Once you’re under its influence, things can get ugly.

If you haven’t been able to sleep well lately, you need to ask yourself why. Insomnia doesn’t just happen out of the blue – there are a variety of reasons that can lead to it. Sleeping is vital for our overall health and when we don’t get at least 7-8 hours of sleep overnight, we will definitely suffer the consequences.
So, if you can’t fall or stay asleep overnight for more than a week, we suggest talking to a professional.
Now you’re probably asking, what does this have to do with mental exhaustion? Well, mental burnouts have been known to “kill” your energy levels, leaving you unable to go about your day. You’ll feel like you’ve been completely drained of energy and tell yourself that it’s just a phase. It’s not – if you’ve been feeling exhausted for more than a week or two, you should get some help.
Anxiety is one of the most common symptoms of mental burnout. The loss of appetite, lack of energy and sleep and the other problems mental burnout brings almost always lead to anxiety and even depression if left untreated. It’s a vicious cycle which needs to be stopped before things take an ugly turn, and believe us, they can.
Although a minor symptom compared to insomnia or anxiety, brain fog is still an indicator of mental exhaustion which shouldn’t be disregarded. You just can’t focus on things and find the motivation to work, which will create problems sooner or later. Things will start piling up and if you don’t get help, you’re risking your work and even more.
The final stage of mental exhaustion is anger. You’ll be easily irritated and unable to control the rage that builds up inside of you, screaming at innocent people and ruining your relationships. At first, you’ll only be slightly irritated, but over time, even simple things will make you angry. If this happens too often recently, it’s a major warning signs that you’ve come to the point where you need help.
